  3. Several of the leading guidelines on the management for low back pain recommend spinal manipulation, exercise, and/or acupuncture for acute and chronic/persistent pain
     
  4. Osteoarthritis or "degenerative joint disease" is not a disease, but rather a structural abnormality with a constellation of symptoms. Numerous studies have determined that degenerative changes on imaging (ie: X-rays, MRI, etc.) is poorly correlated to patient symptoms. Basically: degenerative joints aren't always the cause of the pain, it could be the muscles, ligaments, nerves, and other structures around them.
     

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONs

  1. What is the popping sound during a manipulation?... This is referred to as a cavitation, which is an audible "pop" or "click", indicating the release of pressurized gas from within a joint. 
     
  2. Are acupuncture needles painful?... In most cases, acupuncture needles are painless and are not felt during treatment! Depending on the area being treated it can be normal to experience muscle twitches or a dull-ache. Still not sure? Ask Dr. Simpson to show you!
     
  3. How important is it that I do my exercises as prescribed?... Very important! If you have seen Dr. Simpson you have probably heard him say "there are 168 hours in a week, but you only spend 1 with me!". Being an active member of your own rehab is very important and will allow you to life a healthier, pain-free life.
